If you spent less than six months in a home, you are not worthy of anything, so says, Minister for Children, Roderic O’ Gorman
Now, Consider, John and Joan. When John was 9 months old he was placed “In The Care ” of a religious institution. Likewise, Joan who was then 8 years old, in a separate location.
Joan spent her entire life in institutions. John was “fostered out” to several different rural families, John had lived with more different families than he had birthdays before his 8th birthday. John was then, by way of an illegal transaction, transported to another country.
Eventually John returned to Ireland and found his sister.
In due course, Joan received some monetary compensation for her harrowing experiences, and even got to meet the President of Ireland. John however , was told, “As you left the country (8 years old, sold to strangers), and had not actually spent much time in any given “Care premises”, you are not entitled to anything! An Irish solution to an Irish problem.
PS. John had never actually ceased to be an Irish Citizen, just not an equal one!
